After the war Marshall and Amanda both go home together and there are no war pensions for them back then so they need to find work. In December they marry and take up residence in Boston, the busiest city in New England. Like many other veterans they are looking for what’s next and the west beckons with the offer of free land and hear news about the discovery of oil in Colorado. They start making plans to go by train and wagon.
